Mexico 1850-Zs OM 8 reales

Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70890

This specimen was lot 70890 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1850-Zs OM. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. Despite the noted cleaning, the present example delivers much presentability with strong details." The Zacatecas mint is tied with Guanajuato as the most prolific mint during the Republic and most of the eight reales struck 1825-97 are common, as is this one. Assayer OM operated 1831-55, one of the longest tenures of the Republic. No varieties are noted in the SCWC for this date.
