Mexico 1850-Ga JG 8 escudos

Heritage sale 3076, lot 34344

This specimen was lot 34344 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico: Republic gold 8 Escudos 1850 Ga-JG AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Guadalajara mint." The specimen shown is one of a series struck intermittently 1825-66 at the Guadalajara mint. That mint struck all the silver and gold denominations used during the republic, from the ¼ real to the 8 escudos. Many are rare, tho this date obtains no premium in the SCWC.
