Steve Album Auction 53, lot 3533

This specimen was lot 3533 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $156. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO: Republic, AR 4 reales, 1850-C, assayer CE, rare, VG-F." The Culiacan mint opened in 1846 to process ore from local mines. Like many other mints, it neglected the production of small change in favor of striking pesos for export. The SCWC reports five dates for the four reales (1846, 1850, 1852, 1858 and 1860) of which only the 1860 is common. Assayer CE operated 1846-70.
