This specimen was struck at the Zacatecas mint in 1831. This mint struck silver and gold coins 1812-1905, with one reales known for 1826-62 and 1868-69. The issues of Guanajuato, along with Zacatecas and Mexico City, are generally considered common. The second specimen was lot 72433 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $268.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1831-Zs OV. Zacatecas Mint. NGC AU-58. Finest of four examples graded by NGC, next best if EF Details. Rare condition for date. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors."
