SB223-72149r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72149 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1831-Zs OV. Zacatecas. PCGS AU-53. Uncommon in AU or better, this date for Zacatecas is seldom encountered as attractive as the present example. This is a strong example with light, even circulation upon its devices. Its fields are deeply toned with mottled dark mulberry and dusky gray hues. These colors are enlivened by occasional flashes of luster on the peripheries." This is an uncommon date tho still affordable; assayer OM (1831-55) appears moe often.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-377.13; DP-Zs10.
