This specimen was lot 73207 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1831-Zs OM. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. Rather darkly toned, this example exhibits some wear in the central areas of the obverse and reverse, but otherwise features little evidence of handling." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is scarce compared to the later issues of the 1880's and 1890's. Assayer OM is recorded for 1830-55; this date is fairly common. The other assayer for 1831, OV, is rather scarce.
