This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is scarce compared to the later issues of the 1880's and 1890's. Assayer AO is recorded for 1826-29; this date is fairly common. The other assayer for 1829, OV, is rather scarce. This specimen was lot 6459 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $166.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 8 Reales, 1829-AO. Nice strike, lightly toned. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED."

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
