Mexico 1828-Zs AO 8 reales

This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is scarce compared to the later issues of the 1880's and 1890's. Assayer AO is recorded for 1826-29; this date is fairly common. The overdate is unlisted in the SCWC. This specimen was lot 6458 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $805. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 8 Reales, 1828/7-AO. EXTREMELY RARE overdate (missing from the J.B. Parker Collection). Lightly cleaned. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED."
