This specimen was lot 6275 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $4,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Estado De Mexico. 8 Reales, 1828-LF. Choice Estado De Mexico 8 Reales. Truly exceptional and one of the finest 8 Reales we have seen from this mint. Ex: Ponterio Auction #143, lot #1320. Slight weakness in strike. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED." All coinage of the Estado de Mexico mint, which operated 1828-1830, is scarce and expensive.
