Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 414

This specimen was lot 414 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £300 (about US$465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic / Philippines, 8 reales, Durango mint, 1828 RL, with Manila countermark crowned Y.II. for Isabel II over Liberty cap (1834-37), about fine. Ex Superior auction, June 1979, lot 2479 (part)." The Durango mint struck eight reales 1824-95 and this early date is scarce but not rare. Assayer RL is listed for 1824-29.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a slightly better date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, 0.785 troy oz ASW.
