This specimen was lot 72548 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1828/7-Ga FS. Guadalajara Mint. PCGS VF-25 Gold Shield. A nice wholesome and evenly worn example of this VERY SCARCE date displaying lovely rich mottled grey patina. A neat piece for the specialist of early republican minors." Shown is an 1828/7-GaFS two reales, one of a type struck at the Guadalajara mint 1825-62. Assayer FS is recorded this mint for the years 1821 and 1825-35. Other mints include Guanajuato, Mexico City, Alamos, Hermosillo, Zacatecas, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. This is a scarce date of a less common mint.
