Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72430

This specimen was lot 72430 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,220. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1829-Zs AO. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-62. Finest and only Mint State of just three coins graded by NGC. The other two are VG-08. Sharp strike with light toning. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated. This specimen was struck at the Zacatecas mint in 1829, one of a type struck there 1826-62 and 1869. Assayer AO is recorded at this mint for the years 1826-29. Assayer OV is known for 1829 two and eight reales but doesn't seem to have stamped one reales.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.903 fine silver, .098 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-372.10.
