Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72528

This specimen was lot 72528 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1829-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. Though exhibiting a light degree of gentle handling, this example is nevertheless the finest of the date graded by PCGS. Some hints of cobalt add further character near the peripheries. From the Sonoran Sunset Collection." The Mexico City mint was the central mint for the republic altho for many years it was outproduced by Guanajuato and Zacatecas. Assayer JM operated 1823-32. This is a better date but not rare.
