This specimen was lot 31253 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $10,575. Limited wear on the high points but a unusually handsome specimen, well struck and retaining significant luster. One of the key issues of the entire series, since very rare and the only collectible date of the short-lived Estado de Mexico 8 Escudos series (the 1828 date is essentially non-collectible since only 2 or 3 specimens are known). Of the twelve mints which issued eight escudos, the Estado de Mexico is the rarest, emitting the onza in 1828-29 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
