This specimen was lot 73163 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $149. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1829-Zs OV. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. Scarce assayer. Finest of only four examples graded with the next best VF Details. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Assayer AO served 1826-29. Assayer OV (1829-31) is known for 1829 two and eight reales but doesn't seem to have stamped half or one reales. Other mints include Guanajuato, Mexico City, Alamos, Hermosillo, Guadalajara, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. This is a common date of a common mint.
