This specimen was lot 71478 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1831-Go MJ. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. Variety with triangle of dots after date. Quite well struck and detailed, this early date specimen offers olive gray surfaces with no real evidence of handling, while the noted cleaning remains rather light." The Guanajuato mint operated 1812-1900 and struck this type 1825-97. This is the third common date. Assayer MJ operated 1826-33.
