This specimen was lot 21471 in Heritage sale 3006 (Long Beach, September 2009), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Republic Cap and Rays 8 Reales 1831 Ca-MR, cleaned VF. Very rare first year of issue, with near-full LIBERTAD and full, sharp snake and some feathers on eagle's breast. Ex: Superior's sale of the Robert Lawson Collection, June 1985, Lot 3382."

This first year of issue is one of the rarest of this mint; the first affordable date is the 1842CaRG. The later dates of the 1880's and 1890's are common. The Chihuahua mint struck "cap and ray" eight reales 1831-95.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
