This specimen was lot 73115 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $195.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1831-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. NGC G-6. Very scarce date. Second best of two graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." This is one of a type struck at the Mexico City mint 1825-37, 1840-41, 1847-63, 1867-68. Other mints include Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Alamos, Hermosillo, Guadalajara, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. This is a scarce date of a common mint.
