Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 1258

This type with the imaginary bust was struck 1808-12; the succeeding type with the "standard bust" of Ferdinand VII is much scarcer even tho it was struck over a longer span of years. This specimen was lot 1258 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1811-JJ. NGC AU-58."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
