The first specimen was lot 43504 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence. Oaxaca. 1/2 Real, ND (1811-14). PCGS AU-53 Gold Shield. Uniface strike. Lovely brown patina." The second specimen was lot 77097 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[2] noted, "MEXICO. Oaxaca. War of Independence. Tierra Caliente. 2 Reales, 1813. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details. Uniface. Die clash on reverse." After Hidalgo was captured and executed in 1811, José Maria Morelos took over the independence movement until his capture and execution in 1815. His center of operations was in Oaxaca, where copper and silver half, one, two and eight reales were minted 1811-14. Oaxaca was also the scene of royalist issues in 1812. The paucity of bullion meant that silver issues were few.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM-219.
