Mexico 1811-D RM 2 reales
This specimen was lot 21166 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence. Durango. 2 Reales, 1811-RM. FINE. VERY RARE. One year type with 'DURANGO' spelled out in the reverse legend. Never cleaned, fully original, and of significant historical interest. Struck on a flan with minor lamination problems, but overall an outstanding example of this seldom ever offered and RARE type." The Durango mint was opened in 1811 to process local ore during the anarchy of the War of Independence. It struck two reales 1811-17 as well as half, one, four and eight reales.
