Künker sale 353, lot 3519

This specimen was lot 3519 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €240 (about US$334 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/6 Reichstaler preuß. 1765, D, Aurich. Berliner Typ. RR Schön-sehr schön. Erworben am 25.1.1989 von Udo Gans, Arnsberg. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one-sixth thaler of 1765, Aurich mint. Very rare, very fine.)"

The regular 1/6 thaler (KM 299) was struck 1764-70, 1780 and 1786 at Berlin, Cleve, Breslau and Königsberg and is common. The Aurich mint struck a local type, shown here, 1765 and 1767.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.35 g, 0.521 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, this specimen is 5,01 g.
