Prussia 1765-C 1/6 thaler
The first specimen was lot 3512 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €90 (about US$125 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/6 Reichstaler preuß. 1765, C, Cleve. Sehr schön. Erworben im Oktober 2003 von Manfred Olding, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one sixth thaler of 1765, Cleve mint. Very fine.)"
bThe second specimen was lot 3513 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €100 (about US$139 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/6 Reichstaler preuß. 1765, C, Cleve. Berliner Typ. Sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Erich Hensgen, Auktion Kölner Münzkabinett 46, Köln 1988, Nr. 692. (Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one sixth thaler of 1765, Cleve mint, Berlin type. Very fine.)"
This type was struck 1764-70, 1780 and 1786 at Berlin, Cleve, Breslau and Königsberg and is common. The 1765-C is a better date tho the SCWC makes no mention of the different busts, shown here, used on this date. The Cleve mint also struck a local type (KM 62) with "10 STUV:" added to the reverse.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 5.35 g, 0.521 fine silver, the first specimen is 5.29 g; the second specimen is 5,13 g.
