Künker sale 353, part of lot 3720

This specimen was part of lot 3720 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €60 (about US$84 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Ku.-Deut ...b) Ku.-Deut 1753 ohne Münzzeichen, Cleve. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. Erworben am 20.12.1983. 2 Stück., Sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, copper duit of 1753 without mintmark, Cleve mint, struck for the western provinces. [One of] two pieces, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1752-53 at the western mint of Cleve, along with a quarter stuber, stuber and double stuber. The Cleve mint remained active striking coins for the Hohenzollerns into the nineteenth century.
