SB222-74705r.jpg

This specimen was lot 74705 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1855-Zs OM. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS MS-60. Frosty luster ices the devices like an overnight frost that renders a handsome sparkling appearance to the surfaces. A slightly odd and earthen colored tone is present inconsistently across the obverse along with some friction, though this example is far less plagued by hits than would be expected for the grade. A few scuffs appear on the eagle side." Assayers MO and OM are listed for 1855 with MO obtaining a slight premium. OM operated 1831-55 and MO 1855-60.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-377.13; DP-Zs35.
