Mexico 1855-Mo GF 8 escudos

The specimen shown is a middle date of a series struck 1824-69 at the Mexico City mint. That mint struck all denominations, silver, gold and copper. This date is common, tho many dates are rare. Assayer GF is also known for 1855-57. This specimen was lot 22328 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1855 Mo-GF, AU58 NGC. Essentially full luster with no detracting flaws. The central areas are softly struck, but there is little, or no, actual wear."
