The specimen shown is a middle date of a series struck 1824-69 at the Mexico City mint. That mint struck all denominations, silver, gold and copper. This date is common, tho many dates are rare. Assayer GF is also known for 1855-57. This specimen was lot 2370 in Goldberg sale 100 (Los Angeles, September 2017), where it sold for $1,234. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 8 Escudos, 1856-Mo GF. Hand on Book. Surface marks in the center on both sides. PCGS graded AU Details, Damaged."

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
