Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73149

This specimen was lot 73149 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $244. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1856-Pi MC. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC Fine Details--Scratches, Cleaned. Very scarce. Second finest of just three graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. The San Luis Potosi mint struck two reales 1829-30, 1837, 1841-46, 1849-50, 1856-63 and 1868-69, with a number of rare dates, including this one. Assayer MC (Mariano Catano) operated 1849-59.
