The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos for Mexico 1846-70 and most dates are reasonably available. This specimen was lot 22319 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,586.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1856 C-CE, XF Details. Lustrous, with flan flaw in lower obverse field. Ex: Superior's Jascha Heifetz Collection Sale, December 9-10, 1989, Lot 193."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
