The specimen shown is a middle date of a series struck 1824-69 at the Mexico City mint. That mint struck all denominations, silver, gold and copper. This date is common, tho many dates are rare. Assayer GC is also known for 1848-54. This specimen was lot 22327 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1854/44 Mo-GC, XF. Bold overdate, with no egregious flaws. A scarcer overdate issue." Overdate 1854/3 is also listed for the year.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
