This specimen was part of lot 73193 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $915. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Group of 2 Reales (12 Pieces), 1845-65. Zacatecas Mint. Grade Range: FINE to VERY FINE. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. Zacatecas was a major producer of two reales, striking them 1825-70. For 1855, production was shared between assayer OM (1831-56) and assayer MO (Manuel Ochoa, shown here). Both are listed as common along with a 1855/4 overdate.
