This specimen was lot 71512 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1855-Go PF. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS AU-55. A wonderfully toned example of this minor issue, offering some underlying brilliance left in the fields." Shown is an 1855-Go PF four reales, from a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1835-70. Assayer PF is recorded for 1848-61. Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Guanajuato is tied with Zacatecas as the commonest mint. This date is common but, like all four reales, rare in choice condition.
