Mexico 1855-Pi MC 4 reales
This specimen was lot 73366 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1855-Pi MC. San Luis Potosi Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details. Cleaning marks are noted on the lower portion of the obverse, but this minor stands as a RARE offering of this date. Deep toning and a rather well-presented strike lend some visual appeal." San Luis Potosi, like most of the mints, concentrated on striking pesos for export but managed to produce an extensive run of four reales 1837-38, 1842-64, 1868-69. This is a rare date. Assayer MC operated 1849-60.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
