Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73209

This specimen was lot 73209 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $292.80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1855-Ga JG. Guadalajara Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Very scarce date. Second finest of three examples graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Four reales are known from Guadalajara for 1843-50, 1855-60 and 1863. The early dates are fairly common but all the dates after 1846 are scarce to rare. The purchaser of this lot obtained a bargain as even the SCWC recognizes this as a rare date. Assayer JG (Juan de Dios Guzman) served 1836-63.
