This specimen was lot 71065 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $89. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. 12 Deniers, Year 3/1791-N. Montpellier Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS EF-45. A deep brown, lightly circulated, and glossy specimen. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Patrick Guillard on 9 March 2002 in Paris for $80)." This specimen is one of a type struck 1791-93 during the early stages of the French Revolution before the trial and execution of the king. Enormous quantities were produced at several temporary mints from any metal available. This is a better date. The brass version is priced rather higher than the copper version.
