SB825-43053r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43053 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom. Liard, 1791-B. Rouen Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS MS-65 Red Brown. Unsurprisingly standing as the finer of just two observed in the PCGS census, this Gem provides an abundance of enticing eye appeal. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Wade Hinderling at NYINC on 25 June 1992 for $140)." This type was struck at Rouen 1785-86 and 1788-91 and is a better mint. The liard was three deniers or one fourth of a sol.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 3.06 g, copper, 23.5 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Benjamin Duvivier.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 894, KM-585.3; Gad-348.
