This twelve deniers, struck in Lyons, France, during the early stages of the French Revolution, before the arrest and trial of the king, was meant to supersede the sol of the ancien régime. This coin was very rare in nice condition before the recent discovery of a hoard. It was struck at sixteen different mints and is very common in low grade.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: brass, bronze or copper, 12.23 g, 29 mm diameter. Engraved by Benjamin Duvivier.
