The first specimen was lot 71064 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $109. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. 12 Deniers, Year 3/1791-B. Rouen Mint. Louis XVI. CHOICE ABOUT UNCIRCULATED. Featuring even, deep brown surfaces and a great glossy nature, this specimen provides alluring eye appeal. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from George Pretsch on 3 May 1972 for $10)." The second specimen was part of lot 71309 in the same sale, which sold for $149. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. Quartet of 12 Deniers (4 Pieces), Year 3/1791. Louis XVI. Grade Range: VERY FINE to EXTREMELY FINE Details. 1) Metz, 12.35 g. Second semester. EXTREMELY FINE. 2) Rouen, VERY FINE. 3) Limoges, 11.57 g. Second semester. VERY FINE. 4) Bayonne, 11.36 g. EXTREMELY FINE Details. Scratched. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Richard Margolis Collection." These specimens are from a type struck 1791-93 during the early stages of the French Revolution before the trial and execution of the king. Enormous quantities were produced at several temporary mints from any metal available. This is a better date. The copper version is priced slightly higher than the brass version.

Recorded mintage: 5,625,904.

Specification: 12.23 g, bronze or brass, 29 mm diameter. The second specimen is 13.61 g.
