This specimen was lot 71043 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $244. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. 15 Sols, Year 3/1791-BB. Strasbourg Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS AU-50. A RARER type that is lightly toned across both sides, this wholesome specimen features an appealing appearance. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired Leu on 12 October 1970 in Zurich for $12)." This specimen is a billon fifteen sols struck at the Strasbourg mint in 1791-92. It is rather scarce. Its face value was one-eighth of an écu. The type was struck 1791-93 and is known from Paris, Metz, Limoges, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Marseilles, La Rochelle, Nantes, Toulouse, Lille and other mints. This variety has "FRANÇAIS" on the obverse whereas the more common Gad-36 has "FRANÇOIS".
