This specimen is a billon fifteen sols struck at the Limoges mint in 1791. It is common. Its face value was one-eighth of an écu. The type was struck in France 1791-93 and is known from Paris, Metz, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Marseilles, Nantes, Lille and other mints. The second specimen was lot 71044 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $341.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. 15 Sols, Year 4/1792. Limoges Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Fine Details. Second semester. Variety without mintmark. A VERY RARE type that lacks the "I" mintmark, with olive-gray toning across both sides. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Elmen in 1988 for $175). Ex: World-Wide Coins of California [James Elmen] XIV (11/1988) Lot # 96."
