This specimen was lot 71077 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $195.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. 3 Deniers, Year 4/1792-DL. Roanne Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS AU-55. Second semester. A SCARCER issue from a branch mint presenting the DL mintmark as a monogram. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Joe Collard on 12 December 2000 for $75)." This uncommon type was struck in 1792 only from three mints (DL, D, I). The product of the Strasbourg mint is considered a separate type (Gad-4) because Louis is shown as the "ROI FRANÇAIS" instead of the "ROI FRANÇOIS" shown here. Gadoury notes that the Roanne mint operated from fall 1792 to the end of 1793, striking three, six and twelve deniers and double sols. In all, Gadoury estimates 112,000,000 double sols, 130,000,000 twelve deniers and three million each of the three and six deniers were minted.

Recorded mintage: unknown but the most common date.

Specification: 3.05 g, bronze or brass, 22 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-608.1 (as Lyon); Gad-5.
