This specimen was part of lot 71298 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $317.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. Sextet of 15 Sols (6 Pieces), Year 4/1792. Louis XVI. Grade Range: FINE to EXTREMELY FINE Details. 1) Rouen, 5.01 g. Second semester. EXTREMELY FINE. 2) La Rochelle, Second semester. EXTREMELY FINE. Graffiti. 3) Marseille, FINE. 4) Montpellier, 4.95 g. Second semester. VERY FINE. Scratched. 5) Perpignan, 4.91 g. FINE. Scratched. 6) Year 4/3, 1792/1. Orleans, VERY FINE. Scratched. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This specimen is a billon fifteen sols struck at the Orléans mint in 1792. It is very scarce. Its face value was one-eighth of an écu. The type was struck 1791-93 and is known from Paris, Metz, Limoges, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Marseilles, La Rochelle, Nantes, Toulouse, Lille and other mints. This variety has "FRANÇOIS" on the obverse whereas the scarcer Gad-35 has "FRANÇAIS".
