This specimen was part of lot 71296 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $414.80. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. Septet of 15 Sols (7 Pieces), Year 3/1791. Louis XVI. Grade Range: VERY FINE to ABOUT UNCIRCULATED Details. 1) Paris, 5.02 g. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED. Scratched. 2) Rouen, VERY FINE. Altered Edge. 3) Rouen, 4.95 g. VERY FINE. Scratched. 4) Montpellier, EXTREMELY FINE. Tooled. 5) Perpignan, 4.89 g. VERY FINE. Scratched. 6) Orleans, 4.96 g. Second semester. VERY FINE. Cleaned. 7) Nantes, EXTREMELY FINE. Scratched. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This specimen is a billon fifteen sols struck at the Montpellier mint in 1791. It is scarce. Its face value was one-eighth of an écu. The type was struck 1791-93 and is known from Paris, Metz, Limoges, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Marseilles, La Rochelle, Nantes, Toulouse, Lille and other mints. This variety has "FRANÇOIS" on the obverse whereas the scarcer Gad-35 has "FRANÇAIS".

Recorded mintage: 156,221, a scarce date.

Specification: 4.99 g, 0.666 fine silver, reeded edge, engraved by Augustin Dupré. This specimen is 5.10 g.
