This specimen was part of lot 71279 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $341.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Kingdom. Group of Sols (10 Pieces), 1791. Louis XVI. Grade Range: FINE to EXTREMELY FINE Details. 1) Metz, Second semester. VERY FINE. 2) Rouen, 12.10 g. VERY FINE. 3) Strasbourg, 12.24 g. VERY FINE. Scratched. 4) Strasbourg, Second semester. VERY FINE. Scratched, Damaged. 5) Limoges, Second semester. EXTREMELY FINE. Scratched. 6) Bordeaux, 10.85 g. Second semester. EXTREMELY FINE. 7) Marseille, VERY FINE. 8) Orleans, 11.78 g. Second semester. FINE. 9) Nantes, 12.89 g. Second semester. VERY FINE. Scratched. 10) Lille, 12.42 g. VERY FINE. Cleaned. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Richard Margolis Collection." Altho this type was struck in considerable numbers 1777-91, the only dates known from the Marseille mint are 1787-91. Its face value was 12 deniers or 1/120 of an écu and was not demonetized in France until 1852.
