This specimen was lot 832 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €80 (about US$101 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Constitution (1791-1792), AR 15 sols, 1791I, an 3, Limoges. Type FRANCOIS. D/ T. nue à g., les cheveux noués par un ruban. R/ Génie inscrivant la constitution sur une table. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XVI (1774-93), silver fifteen sols of 1791, year 3, Limoges mint. Obverse: bare head to left, hair tied in a ribbon; reverse: the Genius of France inscribes the constitution on a lectern. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This specimen is a billon fifteen sols struck at the Limoges mint in 1791. It is common. Its face value was one-eighth of an écu. The type was struck 1791-93 and is known from Paris, Metz, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Marseilles, Nantes and other mints.

Recorded mintage: 4,228,733.
