This specimen was lot 71040 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $292.80. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. 30 Sols, Year 3/1791-BB. Strasbourg Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS EF-40. Lightly toned a gunmetal gray with hints of olive, this example is surpassed in the PCGS census by just one other. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Elmen in 1988 for $275). Ex: World-Wide Coins of California [James Elmen] XIV (11/1988) Lot # 93." This specimen is a billon fifteen sols struck at the Strasbourg mint in 1791-93. It is rather scarce. Its face value was one-eighth of an écu. The type was struck 1791-93 and is known from Paris, Limoges, Bordeaux, Nantes, Lille and other mints. This variety has "FRANÇOIS" on the obverse whereas the rare Gad-38 has "FRANÇAIS".

Recorded mintage: 17,783 including Gad-38.

Specification: 9.98 g, 0.666 fine silver, 28 mm diameter.
