Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 71067

This specimen was lot 71067 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $129. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Constitution. 12 Deniers, Year 3/1791-T. Nantes Mint. Louis XVI. FINE. Second semester. Fairly extensively handled, with tan-yellow surfaces and some minor roughness as made at the edges. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Platt in 1968). Ex: Marcel Platt (11/1968) Lot # 289." This specimen is one of a type struck 1791-93 during the early stages of the French Revolution before the trial and execution of the king. Enormous quantities were produced at several temporary mints from any metal available. This is a better date. Saumur, one of the provisional mints which operated from May 1792 to May 1793, also used the "T" mintmark but with a dot added.

Recorded mintage: 194,100 from Nantes plus more from Saumur.
