This specimen was lot 70541 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg. 1/3 Taler, 1679-HB. Johann Friedrich (1665-79). PCGS Genuine--Tooled, EF Details Secure Holder. Minor tooling in obverse field. Good strike with even gray toning." This type was struck 1679 only. Another one-third thaler exists for 1679 announcing the death of the duke (KM 220). He died in 1679, leaving only daughters, and was succeeded by his youngest brother Ernst Augustus.
