This specimen was lot 792 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, Johann Friedrich, 1665-1679. Reichstaler 1678, Clausthal. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Calenberg-Hannover, John Frederick, 1665-79, thaler of 1678, Clausthal mint, rare, very fine.)"
While the "leaping stallion" thaler was popular and struck in many variations, this particular issue is rare, being unpriced in the SCWC.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
