This specimen was lot 5653 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €220 (about US$306 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Johann Friedrich, 1665-1679. 1/24 Taler 1679, Zellerfeld, auf seinen Tod am 28. Dezember. RR Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 32, Osnabrück 1996, Nr. 3686. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, John Frederick, 1665-79, 1/24 thaler of 1679, Zellerfeld mint, on his death on December 28. Very rare, handsome patina, extremely fine.)"

This is one of an extensive series of commemoratives marking the death of duke Joahnn Friedrich. Another 1/24 thaler, struck at Clausthal with initials "HB", bears catalog number KM 213.
